Litecoin was launched as a faster alternative to Bitcoin that initially was put forward as "asic-resistant" as well. However, after ~2 years of existence ASICs were produced for the implementation of Scrypt that Litecoin uses, and there was never any serious discussion about modifying or changing the proof-of-work algorithm.
